Homunculus
A companion of your own making.
A homunculus is an artificial creature that fights beside you. You make one with the Alchemist skills, feed it so it likes you, and it can evolve. A Genetic or Biolo can later mutate an evolved one into a Homunculus S. It is not the same as a mercenary: a mercenary is hired for 30 minutes, a homunculus stays with you and grows.
Get one
- Learn Bioethics. The skill is a quest skill: an Alchemist finds Kellasus in Lighthalzen and starts the Bioethics quest, a chain of 13 steps through Lighthalzen. Kellasus teaches the skill at the end.
- Learn the skills in order. Bioethics opens Vaporize, Vaporize opens Call Homunculus, and Call Homunculus opens Homunculus Resurrection (5 levels).
- Make an Embryo. Your homunculus comes from an Embryo. You make it with the Alchemist's Prepare Potion skill, using the recipe from the Potion Creation Guide. The Guide costs 100,000 zeny from the Guild Dealer in the Alchemist Guild (choose "Purchase a production manual").
- Buy the materials from the Material Seller : one Seed of Life, one Morning Dew of Yggdrasil and one Glass Tube for each Embryo (prices below).
- Call it. Cast Call Homunculus (10 SP). The Embryo is used up and one of the four types appears, picked at random with the same chance each. You cannot choose.
| Material for one Embryo | Price |
|---|---|
| Seed of Life | 60,000 zeny |
| Morning Dew of Yggdrasil | 20,000 zeny |
| Glass Tube | 5,000 zeny |
Together 85,000 zeny for each Embryo, plus the Guide once.
Vaporize puts the homunculus away: it needs 50 SP and has a 20-second cooldown, and the homunculus must have at least 80% of its HP. Calling it back after a Vaporize costs 1 Seed of Life instead of an Embryo. If it dies, Homunculus Resurrection brings it back.
The four types
Every type has four skills, the last one only after it has evolved. Levels cap at 99.
| Type | Race | Element | Size | Food |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lif | Demihuman | Neutral | Small, Medium after evolving | Pet Food |
| Amistr | Brute | Neutral | Small, Medium after evolving | Zargon |
| Filir | Brute | Neutral | Small, Medium after evolving | Garlet |
| Vanilmirth | Formless | Neutral | Small, Medium after evolving | Scell |
Race, element and size are the server data. Where a value is not written there, the server's default is used.
Food and intimacy
A new homunculus starts 32% full with an intimacy of 21 out of 1000. Its fullness drops by 1 every minute, and every 20 seconds once it is down to 10% or less. At 0%, its intimacy falls by 1 at every step, and a homunculus with almost no intimacy is lost.
Feeding uses one food item and adds 10% fullness. What it does to intimacy depends on how full the homunculus was:
| Fullness when you feed it | Intimacy |
|---|---|
| 91% or more | -0.5 |
| 76 to 90% | -0.05 |
| 26 to 75% | +0.75 |
| 11 to 25% | +1 |
| 10% or less | +0.5 |
So feed it when it is hungry, best at 11 to 25%, and never when it is nearly full. Intimacy tops out at 1000 and gives these moods:
| Intimacy | Mood |
|---|---|
| 911 or more | Loyal |
| 751 to 910 | Cordial |
| 251 to 750 | Neutral |
| 101 to 250 | Shy |
| 11 to 100 | Awkward |
| 4 to 10 | Hate |
| below 4 | Hate with passion |
The four foods are cheap: Garlet costs 30 zeny in the shops that sell it, Scell 120 and Zargon 360. Pet Food and the food of the Homunculus S types are sold by the Pet Groomer in the main towns (1,000 zeny each, for example in Prontera ).
Evolve it
Use a Stone of Sage while the homunculus is out and Loyal (intimacy 911 or more). It evolves into its stronger form with more HP, SP and stats, becomes Medium, and its intimacy resets to 10. The last skill of its tree now opens (it also needs intimacy 910). The Stone of Sage is not sold in a shop: it drops from
Gemini-S58,
Dame of Sentinel,
Mistress of Shelter,
Baroness of Retribution,
Lady Solace and some stronger versions of them.
The Homunculus S types do not evolve.
Skills of the four types
What each skill does is from the in-game skill text. The last column is what casting it in game showed; it is empty where the skill could not be measured.

| Self-Destruction | 3 | It blows itself up: damage in a 9x9 area that ignores DEF and grows with its Max HP (1x, 1.5x or 2x). It needs intimacy 450, and its intimacy falls to the lowest level. | Evolved, intimacy 910 | It fainted and its intimacy fell. |
Homunculus S
A Genetic or Biolo with a level 99 evolved homunculus can mutate it. Go to Viorel in the Geneticist Lab . He asks you into his house, and you choose:

- Mutation stabilization, 50,000 zeny: you pick the kind: Eira, Bayeri, Sera, Dieter or Eleanor.
- Unstable mutation: no zeny, and the kind is random.
A Homunculus S levels to 275. It does not evolve. The food of each kind and every skill with its level is on the Biolo page.

What the skills do
These Homunculus S skills were cast in game one by one and worked. What each does is from the in-game skill text (or the skill code where the client has none).

| The One Fighter Rises | It fills its spheres to the maximum, then hits the target and the area around it. | Dealt damage. | |
| Blazing And Furious | It rushes up to an enemy and hits the area around it once for every sphere it has. It does nothing on a friendly target. | It hit a monster; nothing happened on you. |
Skills that were cast but showed nothing a test could read (for example Light of Regenerate, a revive) or could not be checked yet are not in this table.
