Memorial dungeon
A forest that rearranges itself, kept by gardeners who do not want you through.
The Laphine guard says nobody goes into the Hazy Forest, and the forest agrees. Inside, the paths loop back on themselves and the trees whisper about the gardeners that keep it closed. Thirteen gardeners each look after a garden tree, and every tree blocks a shortcut. Cut them all down and the forest lets you leave.
The map is called "The Hazy Maze Forest" in the game. It is also the way from Southern Bifrost to Northern Bifrost and on to Mora, and it holds the middle of Loki's Ep14.1 story.
How to go
- Make a party. Without one, the soldier sends you off to organise a party. If your party has no maze open yet, the tunnel pushes you back.
- The leader talks to the Laphine Soldier in Southern Bifrost and picks "Venture into the Hazy Forest". If the 2 hours 30 minutes wait is still running, he tells you to rest and nothing opens.
- Everyone enters the Log Tunnel ("Enter the tunnel"). A map announcement in Southern Bifrost names the party and who went in. You arrive at (89, 29) in the maze.
- The quest starts. Stepping through the tunnel gives you "Misty Forest Labyrinth Exploration". The first maze warp, at (109, 70), also gives it if you do not have it.
At the start, a whisper reads "Who's this? The forest is open! Tom, Tomba, Tired Rem, Remi! Wake up!" Three more lines follow over the first three minutes ("Don't go out, wander around forever, and play with us!").
The maze
The maze is one big map, The Hazy Maze Forest, cut into pockets by about 90 fixed warps. Each warp drops you in another pocket, usually far from where you were. Some go both ways, many do not. A warp at (104, 23), near where you arrive, takes you back to Southern Bifrost (160, 352).
Everything below is placed by the maze itself.
Field monsters
Five kinds of wild monster fill the whole map at random spots. The moment one dies, a new one replaces it so the count stays full.
| Name in game | Count | Monster | Level | HP | Base EXP | Job EXP | Notable drops |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miming | 15 | Miming | 140 | 81,200 | 4,615 | 4,158 | Golden Feather 15 %, Light Granule 0.5 % |
| Pom Spider | 35 | Pom Spider | 145 | 122,110 | 5,206 | 5,303 | Mora Mandarin 5 %, Bug Leg 5 %, Fruit Basket 2.5 %, Chrome Metal Sword 0.25 % |
| Angra Mantis | 35 | Angra Mantis | 144 | 91,720 | 5,063 | 4,633 | Withered Flower 15 %, Soft Blade of Grass 5 % |
| Parus | 35 | Parus | 142 | 86,990 | 4,751 | 4,613 | Round Feather 15 %, Soft Feather 5 %, Mystic Rough Runestone 0.5 %, Lope's Clue three separate rolls at 15 % |
| Little Fatum | 15 | Little Fatum | 142 | 85,100 | 4,875 | 4,290 | Fairy's Magic Power 15 %, Light Granule 0.5 % |
Each has a 0.01 % card: Miming Card, Pom Spider Card, Angra Mantis Card, Parus Card and Little Fatum Card. The Pom Spider also drops a Mental Stick at 0.01 %, the Angra Mantis Great Nature and Sura's Rampage at 0.05 %, the Miming Gold and Telekinetic Orb at 0.01 %, and the Little Fatum Dance Shoes at 0.01 %.
Fifteen more creatures, the Guardian's Fragments of Memory, also stand in the maze. They have 10 HP, no EXP, no drops, and ignore melee, ranged, magic and misc damage.
The thirteen gardeners and their trees
Every gardener is a single monster with the stats of one of the field kinds above. A garden tree can only be chopped once its own gardener is dead. Click the tree while the gardener lives and you only get his cry ("Huh? Who's doing bad things to my tree?!").
Once the gardener is dead, click the tree and pick "Chop down the garden tree." The tree disappears and a warp opens on its spot, to the place in the last column.
| Gardener | Kind | He stands at | Garden tree | The warp lands at |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tom | Little Fatum | (249, 120) | (247, 123) | (164, 66) |
| Tomba | Little Fatum | (200, 64) | (225, 98) | (144, 194) |
| Remi the Tired | Miming | (154, 184) | (159, 184) | (49, 37) |
| Rem the Gardener | Little Fatum | (101, 107) | (61, 39) | (68, 113) |
| Ron the Gardener | Parus | (227, 178) | (230, 179) | (289, 170) |
| Rover the Strutter | Parus | (304, 237) | (285, 225) | (72, 274) |
| Mona the Seedseeker | Angra Mantis | (239, 253) | (161, 316) | (108, 203) |
| Brave Namon | Parus | (89, 173) | (204, 299) | (169, 314) |
| Sad Neoron | Miming | (143, 265) | (221, 236) | (233, 324) |
| Spyder the Eight-Legged | Pom Spider | (209, 200) | (206, 200) | (298, 142) |
| Tito the Flipper | Angra Mantis | (264, 291) | (95, 287) | (323, 276) |
| Diligent Pumba | Parus | (309, 165) | (324, 325) | (49, 316) |
| Carefree Tete | Little Fatum | (277, 343) | (280, 344) | (49, 316) |
Chopping a tree sends a forest line to the whole map ("Tom's bolt is broken! Watch out, Tomba!"). Rem's and Spyder's trees also start a short chain of whispers over the next 5 to 20 seconds.
The Gardeners' Tree and the exit
The last tree stands at (345, 186). Thirteen small gardeners, one for each of the thirteen above ("Baby Tom", "Tomba the Baby", "Exhausted Remi", "Rem the Exhausted" and so on), wait around (317 to 327, 129 to 137). Each is the same kind as the original gardener.
Kill all thirteen, click the tree and chop it down: the forest says "The forest will remember you! It will remember you, the one who broke the clippers of all the gardeners!" and a warp opens at the tree to Northern Bifrost (151, 121). While any little gardener lives, clicking the tree gets you "We're not dead, yet!!!!"
Mysterious Flowers and Seeds
There are 49 Mysterious Flowers in six clusters: 10 within (48 to 73, 268 to 295), 8 within (118 to 146, 179 to 209), 8 within (188 to 216, 92 to 120), 7 within (169 to 195, 296 to 320), 8 within (308 to 335, 118 to 144) and 8 within (238 to 265, 206 to 232). Click one and it gives a Mysterious Seed (Mysterious Seed) and disappears for the rest of this run, so each flower gives one seed once.
The item text says the seed "has a natural inclination to go back to its home". You can use it at the big Mysterious Flower outside in Southern Bifrost . If you carry a seed, you can pick "Observe the reaction": the flower flings you to Northern Bifrost (160, 230) and takes one seed. "Stop the reaction" keeps the seed.
Loki and the Wandering Dragon
This is the Ep14.1 story step that happens inside the maze. Your progress is saved per character, but the dragon is shared: once it dies, the Young Man is gone for everyone in the maze.
- Meet the Mysterious Young Man at (97, 30), right by the start. Below base level 98 he only says it is beyond you. From 98 up he asks if you will pass through, then introduces himself as Loki from the Assassin's Guild and asks if you have seen a girl with purple hair (either answer leads on). The quest "Loki's Search" begins. If you say you will not pass, he tells you to step back and takes the same question when you talk to him again.
- Kill the Wandering Purple Dragon. It stands at one of six places picked when the maze starts: (77, 240), (147, 261), (182, 263), (194, 350), (268, 183) or (65, 278). It is our Lost Dragon.
- When it dies, it says "Am I being punished... for abandoning the way... of the guardian...?", the Young Man disappears from the start, and Loki and a Collapsed Girl appear at (183, 304) and (181, 303). A voice in your head asks "Will you... save... me... please...?"
- Talk to Loki. You must have spoken to the Young Man first. If you did not, Loki only says you can reach Mora through the forest. Otherwise he thanks you for calming the "unruly girl", tells you she is Nydhogg, the Guardian of Yggdrasil he was looking for, and says he will wait for her to wake. "Loki's Search" ends and "Wandering Protector" starts.
- In Mora, talk to the Flower Smelling Lady . She thanks you for pulling her out of the dark and says she does not deserve to be a guardian any more. Then she looks away, deep in thought.
- Then the Sharp Eyed Man next to her . He tells the long story of Morocc, the broken seal and the lonely guardian, you pick a reply, and he finishes "Wandering Protector". Keep room for items: he asks for at least 1,000 free weight.
