Madeleine and the cookbook: Talk to Madeleine Chu, Charles's apprentice, in the same kitchen (prt_cas, 329,206). Keep about 2,000 weight free. She gives you the Level 1 Cookbook and 10 Outdoor Cooking Kits. She sells more Outdoor Cooking Kits (500 Zeny each, up to 100 at a time) if you run out. Do not sell the cookbook. Reward: Level 1 Cookbook, 10 Outdoor Cooking Kits.

Cook every dish in the book: Keep the Level 1 Cookbook in your bag and use an Outdoor Cooking Kit to make all six dishes: Fried Grasshopper Legs, Grape Juice Herbal Tea, Honey Grape Juice, Frog Egg Squid Ink Soup, Steamed Crab Nippers and Fried Monkey Tails. Hold at least one of each, then ask Madeleine 'Will you try the food I cooked?'. She wraps them in a Bundle of Food (the six dishes are used up). Early attempts can fail, so stock extra kits and ingredients. With fewer than six different dishes she sends you back to cook the rest. The home cooking kit is refused until the lesson is over. Chulsoo in Payon: Take the Bundle of Food to Chulsoo, the rice cake seller in Payon (payon, 209,127; near the water mill and the pub). Choose 'Actually, Madeleine sent me...'. He tastes the dishes and gives you a Traditional Rice Cake. Do not open or sell the bundle. If you lose it, tell Madeleine 'I lost the Bundle of Food!' and give back the Level 1 Cookbook: she resets the lesson to the very beginning, and you start again with Charles. Chulsoo's Rice Cakes also cost 200 Zeny each. Reward: Traditional Rice Cake.

Madeleine's thanks: Go back to Madeleine Chu (prt_cas, 329,206). She tells you Chulsoo sent his thanks and gives you 10 Home Cooking Kits. Afterwards both Madeleine (Outdoor and Home Cooking Kits, 500 and 1,000 Zeny) and Charles (more cookbooks) stay open. To borrow Level 1-5 cookbooks, talk to Charles with the Chef Hat on and choose 'I want to learn more recipes.' Type the level you want, then the level you hand back, and bring the price: 10 Pumpkins (Level 1), 5 Well-baked Cookies (Level 2), 5 Sushi (Level 3), 5 Bao (Level 4) or 10 Shoots (Level 5). He keeps the old book. Reward: 10 Home Cooking Kits.
