Learn Sonic Acceleration is an official skill quest chain in 6 steps. It starts at Assassin.
What you need before you start: Sonic Blow, and a way to survive a poison, a sleep or a freeze: the treasure hunt is a 1 in 3 chance each try.
Walkthrough

Ask Esmille: Talk to the Assassin Esmille in the Assassin Guild (the NPC is named Assassin) and choose "I want to learn Sonic Acceleration!" She sends you for treasure and picks the place at random: the coffins of the Sphinx, the stone statues of the Sphinx or the flooded crypt on the lowest floor of the Pyramids.
Assassin: -
The Sphinx coffin: If she sent you to the coffins: go to the Old Coffin in the Sphinx and choose "Put your hand inside". It is a 1 in 3 chance to find a Sapphire; otherwise you are poisoned and bleed. The other choices find nothing, and some blind or curse you. The coffin at 259,213 is empty.

The Sphinx statue: If she sent you to the stone statues: dig at the Stone Statue. It is a 1 in 3 chance to find a Ruby; otherwise a gas puts you to sleep. The statue at 13,146 has only broken glass.

The flooded crypt: If she sent you to the flooded crypt: dip your hand in the water. It is a 1 in 3 chance to grab a Aquamarine; otherwise you are frozen.

Show the treasure: Bring the jewel to Esmille and choose "How's this for treasure?" She lets you keep it.

The lesson: Talk to Esmille again and practise the Sonic Blow stance with her. When it is right, she teaches you Sonic Acceleration. Reward: The Sonic Acceleration skill.
