Memorial dungeon
An octopus with four legs on four roads, and a lot of henchmen.
This instance cannot be entered yet. The cave needs an Octopus Hunting Stick and nothing gives it out at the moment.
A big octopus has been reaching out of a hole in the coral and trying to carry off the Starfish lady. A Starfish guards the gap and asks adventurers to stick the octopus on a pick. The run is a loop: walk four long corridors, break the leg at the end of each one, and the octopus pulls you back to his den for the last fight.
How to go
- Have a party and a stick. Without a party the Starfish tells you to go and make one. Every player who walks in needs an Octopus Hunting Stick on them.
- The leader talks to the Starfish and picks Ask to open the gate. If the leader holds a stick, the cave opens for the party. If the quest is still on the leader (see below) he says the octopus is not around and to come back later.
- Everyone uses the Weird Entrance (a few cells away) and picks Go in. A map announcement says which party started the hunt. If no cave is reserved for your party, the Starfish only says the entrance has a secret.
Going in sets the quest Octopus. It lasts 1 hour from that moment, so you can run it about once an hour. Players who are already inside can walk in again during that time through the Weird Entrance, because only the Starfish checks the quest.
Inside
You arrive in the hub at (199, 99). After a few seconds the octopus shouts at you and the cave comes alive. The hub has four passages. Each one goes through warp doors and leads to a long winding corridor. At the end of every corridor stands an
Octopus Leg.
- The corridors are packed with Octopus (31 in the first corridor, 32 in the second, 22 in the third, 34 in the fourth), plus 35Hydra spread over the four roads and oneStapo in each of eight areas.
- Four ambush spots trigger when someone steps on them, and spawn monsters behind you:
| Spot | What appears |
|---|---|
| (45, 53) | 6 Hydra and 1 Octopus. "Don't let them break through, stop them!!!" |
| (78, 99) | 7 Octopus in the next 8 seconds, at (71, 105). "Headquarters are empty, GO!!!" |
| (299, 144) | 4 Octopus and 1 Deep Sea Marse. "Kakaka! Suprised??!!" |
| (336, 36) | 8 Octopus and 5 Deep Sea Marse. The Marse take the wrong direction at first |
At the end of a corridor
The leg stands in a 6 by 6 trigger area. The moment you step in, the octopus calls "Come out all my babies and help me out!". Five seconds later two more groups of three Octopus appear next to the leg. Thirty seconds after the trigger the corridor's return warp opens, or earlier if every Octopus of that corridor is dead. Any left over are removed. The return warp sends you back to the hub.
The four legs are at (20, 114), (88, 190), (307, 215) and (372, 131). They have 500,000 HP each. You do not have to kill the leg to get out, but all four must die to reach the boss.
When the fourth leg dies
Each leg that dies makes the octopus say "Arrgg!! That hurts!!! I need another strategy...". When the last one falls, he says "Hey you!! I'll personally take care of you all! Let's bring it on!". Everyone in the instance is warped to the hub at once, and a new warp opens at (198, 116) to the boss den at (210, 172).
The boss fight
The
Giant Octopus appears at (199, 188). He is a level 95 Water monster with 500,000 HP and counts as an MVP. Every 7 seconds he shouts one of three random lines (the cycle restarts every 49 seconds). They are jokes about his job, his Christmas and violence, and do nothing.
The den refills itself. Every 10 seconds, if fewer than 100 of its monsters are alive, it adds either one Octopus Leg or five Octopus in the area (192 to 206, 181 to 195). A long fight means a crowded floor.
When he dies, he says "That's it for the today! Next time, I will play with you badly!". The leftover monsters are removed and two exits open at (190, 208) and (198, 82). Touch one and confirm to return to the Starry Coral Area at (153, 233).
Rewards
The cave hands out nothing itself. The loot is the boss's own drops (rates are on the monster page):
| Drop | Chance |
|---|---|
| B Grade Coin Bag | 15 % |
| Normal Coin Bag | 5 % |
| High Weapon Box | 2.5 % |
| White Potion Box | 15 % |
| Poor Coin Bag | 20 % (two separate rolls) |
| Giant Octopus Card | 0.01 % |
The MVP reward is Old Purple Box with a 55 % chance. The boss gives 20,000 base EXP and 10,000 job EXP; each Octopus Leg gives 2,000 base EXP.
Notes
- The shouts call the boss "Disgusting Octopus", the legs "Octopus Leg", the small ones "Octopus's Henchman" and the Marse "Mercenary Squid". The monster pages use other names.
