Memorial dungeon
The moon-swallowing serpent of Port Malaya.
Taho, a Port Malaya fisher, knows a lake where Bakonawa lives. You climb down a cliff on a rope and lure him out with a drop of Albopal. He is a serpent that wants to swallow the moon, and the run has three phases.

How to go

  1. Be level 140 or higher, in a party, with room in your bag. Taho turns you away if you cannot carry one more item, or if you have less than 10,000 weight capacity free.
  2. The leader picks "Please weave a rope". This reserves the lake. If it fails, Taho says the rope got dropped and the leader tries again.
  3. Everyone picks "Now I will go down". Taho says the rope is not ready yet if you are early. Entering sets the quest "Towards Bakonawa Lake..." and a map announcement names your party.
While that quest is active, Taho refuses you ("the rope is broken, we are cleaning up"). It ends at 04:00 server time, 7 days after you enter. Once it ends, Taho clears it and you can go down again with a new rope.
A second quest, "Get Rid of Bakonawa", is added the first time you talk to Taho. It needs one kill of the last, enraged Bakonawa. Without it you get no reward from Taho at the end.

Phase 1: lure him out (10 minutes)

Taho waits at the foot of the cliff at (62, 52). Only the party leader can start the fight: he drops the Albopal and
Bakonawa
surfaces in the middle of the lake at (78, 83).
A clock counts down in map messages (10 minutes, 9 minutes, and so on). Every minute, and again in the last 30 seconds, a group of ghosts called Bakonawa's Will (level 151, 10,000 HP) can appear on up to nine spots around the lake. Each spot has roughly a 30 % chance of a ghost of each of two kinds and a 40 % chance of nothing. They vanish after 50 seconds if you leave them. The summon is cancelled if somebody stands at the lake's centre, near (78, 81), in the 5 seconds before it fires.
If the 10 minutes run out, Bakonawa escapes into the lake. Taho asks the leader if you want to try again, and a retry starts phase 1 from the top.

Phase 2: make noise (5 minutes)

When the first Bakonawa dies, Taho shouts that he is hiding under water and will try to swallow the moon. The map announces: Destroy 2 caldrons and 2 gongs on the left and right sides of the lake. Four drums appear at (95, 98), (60, 98), (97, 104) and (58, 104), 200 HP each. Taho says not to fight Bakonawa, who rises again as an enraged copy (
Bakonawa
) while you work. Each drum that dies is announced with a count of how many are left.
When the last one falls, the enraged copy leaves. If the 5 minutes run out first, Bakonawa escapes and the leader can ask Taho to start over.

Phase 3: the enraged one (10 minutes)

A few seconds later Taho warns that something is coming up fast. Eliminate Bakonawa who became more fierce. The last enraged Bakonawa (
Bakonawa
, level 156, about 3.35 million HP, Water 4) appears at (78, 83).
Bakonawa's Puppets fill the lake area at (74 to 82, 74). The wave size grows: 10 at 2 minutes, 15 at 3, 20 at 4, 30 at 5, 35 at 6, 40 at 7, 45 at 8 and 50 at 9 minutes. Each wave first wipes the puppets still alive, then refills to that number, and a counter on screen shows how many are left. The Will ghosts from phase 1 keep coming about every minute in phases 2 and 3 as well.
If the 10 minutes run out, Bakonawa escapes again and the leader can restart from phase 1.

Rewards

When the last Bakonawa falls, Taho says he threw up a box. A
Bakonawa's Treasure
appears at (78, 74) one second later (5 HP, so one hit). Ten seconds later a message tells you to visit Taho at the top of the hill.
