The Sign Quest (Geffenia) is an official dungeon chain for levels 50-200 in 64 steps. It starts at Sign.
@guide shows your next step in game.Repeatable: after the first steps, each request can be done again from 04:00 server time (CET/CEST) after you hand it in (once a day);

-
The old signboard: Read one of the old signboards in the big towns (Prontera, Geffen, Morocc, Payon, Al De Baran or Alberta; the Prontera one stands at prontera, 147,305). Page through its four pictures. It tells of the Sobbing Starlight and points you to a scholar in Prontera. The same board stands in all six towns; any of them starts the quest.
Sign: -
Metz Brayde the archaeologist: Visit the archaeologist Metz Brayde in his lodging in Prontera (prt_in, 227,45). Choose 'I've been following these signs...'. From base level 50 he accepts you, asks your name and explains his job: you must pass tests set by his friends, and most of them give you a Crumb of Sobbing Starlight. Under base level 50 he sends you away. His steward Vandez and the maid Elle in the same house only chat.
Archeologist: -
Arian's collection: Go to the rogue Arian in Morocc (morocc_in, 115,154). Choose the answer with your own name. Do NOT choose 'Metz sent me here': that throws you out of the room. Arian wants, in this order: 100 Fluff, 50 Poison Spore, 30 Scorpion Tail, 20 Rotten Bandage, 15 Little Evil Horn and 10 Coral Reef. You may hand them over in several visits. Each batch he accepts moves the quest one step, so you can finish one batch, leave, and come back with the next.
Rogue: -
Gaanan's questions: Arian sends you to his friend Gaanan at the counter next to him (morocc_in, 114,162). He asks five 'what would you do' questions and adds up points. You need more than 33 of a possible 44. The high scorers are: explore the island, stay quiet or find a way out, stay put, try to find my friends first, and 'save the world'. If you fail, talk to Arian again and he sends you back for another try.
Young Man: -
Back to Arian: Tell Arian the answers were good enough. He pays you and gives you your first Crumb of Sobbing Starlight. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1, base EXP 300 to 1,800 depending on your level.
-
Daewoon's personality test: Arian says to find Daewoon in Payon. The old man Hagin on the Payon street (payon, 154,170) tells you where to look; Daewoon lives in the big house (payon_in03, 11,31). He asks a long list of questions about how you act with other players. Score 27 points or more to pass; under 27 you may try again. Friendly, team-minded answers score higher than 'I prefer soloing' or 'I hate people who do that'. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1, base EXP 300 to 1,800.
Daewoon: -
Sir Jore's research sample: Find Sir Jore, the shy researcher, in the Al De Baran laboratory (aldeba_in, 155,101). He only talks in the evening, from 17:00 to 21:59 server time (CET). Say 'Daewoon sent me'. As payment for ruining his sample he wants 10 Empty Test Tubes, 10 Green Herbs and 2 Yggdrasil Leaves. At other hours he sleeps or hides behind his book. His assistant Piru Piru (aldeba_in, 156,118) chats in the afternoon.
Sir Jore: -
The samples for Sir Jore: Bring Sir Jore the 10 Empty Test Tubes, 10 Green Herbs and 2 Yggdrasil Leaves, again between 17:00 and 21:59. He then asks you to find a father and daughter, alchemists who went into hiding, to learn about the Stone of Sage.
-
The hiding alchemists: Find the retired alchemists Gordon and his daughter Pleur in the Prontera Culvert maze (prt_maze02, 14,183). The maze has teleport traps, so move carefully. Choose 'Excuse me', then 'Ask about Stone of Sage'. Gordon then guides you out to Mount Mjolnir (mjolnir_12). If you pick 'Roar!' you scare them and must talk to them again.
Gordon: -
What the Stone of Sage is: Go back to Sir Jore (evening hours only). He asks what you learned. When he asks for your guess, type red gemstone. Typing anything else makes him doubt you; try again. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1.
-
Jesqurienne's challenge: Talk to the proud wizard Jesqurienne in her Geffen house (geffen_in, 59,74). Choose 'Oh gosh, it's Jesqurienne!'. At the end of her boasting call her a 'Stuck-up chick.' She dares you to a quiz of minds, and Professor Aaron (geffen_in, 61,72) hosts it. The other answer, 'Take it easy on the drinks...', ends the talk and you have to start again.
- Professor Aaron's quiz: Answer Aaron's ten general-knowledge questions (monsters, items, numbers, maps). Jesqurienne answers too. You must score at least as many points as she does: a tie also passes. If you lose, go to Jesqurienne and pick 'I can't let you win!' to try again. The questions are drawn at random from a short list per round.
-
The loser pays: Talk to Jesqurienne. She admits she lost and asks who you are; type your name. She gives you a Crumb of Sobbing Starlight and tells you about a man in Comodo. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1.
-
Dearles in Comodo: Find Dearles, the shady man in the Comodo hall (cmd_in02, 88,51). Do not talk to him before this step: he lifts 10,000 Zeny from you. Choose 'Excuse me', then 'I'm here for Metz...?'. He wants 30,000 Zeny as a fee; pay it. Pay when you are ready: 'Not yet' keeps your money.
-
Night work: Come back to Dearles at night, from 19:00 to 22:59 server time. Say you are ready. He tells you to bring craft items, one of each kind.
-
Craft collection: Bring Dearles different craft items, one of each. Each kind is worth points: Red Frame, Chung Jah, China, Yellow Plate and Puppet 1 each; Crystal Mirror 2; Frozen Rose 4; dolls: Poring 1,Chonchon 2,Spore 3,Rocker 3,Yoyo 4, Raccoon 4,Baphomet 7,Osiris 7. You need more than 10 points in total. He then sends you through to the dance test. The items are taken from your bag when he accepts them. Reward: base EXP 300 to 1,300 depending on your level.
-
The dance test: In the Comodo hall (cmd_in01) examiner Lamadin (33,25) explains the rules. Enter the Standby Room chat room (33,33) and wait your turn. On the stage, step on the four marked tiles when told. Watch the score, then talk to the examiner at the end of the stage (14,14). A weak score sends you back to Lamadin for another turn. A perfect run pays extra.
-
Dearles pays up: Go back to Dearles for your reward: a Crumb of Sobbing Starlight. With a perfect score he adds 20,000 Zeny. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1, base EXP 300 to 1,900.
-
Mr. Bakerlan, the merchant: Take the road to Alberta and ask for the rich merchant Bakerlan (alberta_in, 125,101); the guard Hurubu at the gate (alberta, 98,202) points you. Say Metz sent you. When you come back, he wants to see exactly 5 Crumbs of Sobbing Starlight in your bag. Do not hand any away. He only checks the crumbs; you keep them.
- A stone with your name: Talk to Bakerlan's steward Mahatra (alberta_in, 114,178). He gives you a stone engraved with your name. It is for a man called Leibech who travels the world. Do not lose the stone. It cannot be replaced.
- Leibech in Juno: Find the knight Leibech in Juno (yuno, 330,100). Choose 'Yes, I have your order'. He only accepts the stone made for you, with your name on it. He pays you with a receipt. A Stone from someone else's quest does not work. Reward: Receipt x1, base EXP 100 to 1,100.
-
Receipt back to Mahatra: Give the receipt to Mahatra in Alberta.
-
Report to Bakerlan: Tell Bakerlan the delivery went fine.
-
Another job: Go to Mahatra again and say 'You have another assignment for me.'
-
Seylin's wish: Talk to the maid Seylin (alberta_in, 154,171). Say that Mahatra sent you and that you want to help. Her brother has his birthday and she wants to send him the medicine Vigorgra. Accept with 'Sure, why not?'.
- The alchemist Melkaba: Ask the alchemist Melkaba in Al De Baran (alde_alche, 169,162) about Vigorgra and say you need it for a friend. He writes down a shopping list: 10 Royal Jelly, 20 Honey, 30 Bear's Footskin, 1 Hinalle Leaflet, 1 Ment and 1 Empty Bottle, plus 10,000 Zeny.
-
Brewing Vigorgra: Bring Melkaba the list and the fee. Nearly every brew works; the rare failure eats the materials, so bring spare ones. You get a bottle of Vigorgra. Don't hurry: the reagents are gone on a failure. Reward: Vigorgra x1.
-
Seylin and the letter: Bring the Vigorgra to Seylin. She gives you a letter for her brother. Carry both to him. Reward: Letter from Sister x1.
-
The brother in Prontera Castle: Her brother is the guard Maruin in Prontera Castle (prt_cas, 87,214). Choose 'Oh no, she sent you a birthday gift.' He takes the medicine and the letter and heals you in thanks. Enter the castle yard and look for the soldier at the stated cell.
-
Seylin thanks you: Tell Seylin how it went. She gives you 3 Panacea. Reward: Panacea x3.
-
Mahatra signs off: Report to Mahatra.
-
Bakerlan's last word: Bakerlan ends his test early because he is busy. He gives you another Crumb of Sobbing Starlight and tells you to take all the crumbs to Metz. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1, base EXP 500 to 2,000.
-
Metz and the pieces: Return to Metz. He explains that the crumbs are pieces of one ore, and that he needs a smith to restore it. He gives you the last crumb (7 in all). Keep visiting him: only about one visit in five he has found a lead, a legendary Blacksmith named Engel Howard whose family lives in Geffen. Other visits he asks for more time. Keep all 7 crumbs; the smith needs them. Reward: Crumb of Sobbing Starlight x1.
-
Engel's wife: Find Engel's wife Brenda Howard in Geffen (geffen_in, 159,48). When she asks, type Engel Howard. She says that he is in the Mjolnir mines, and that his daughter would love to send him a letter.
- Liana's drawing: Talk to Engel's daughter Liana (geffen_in, 171,42). Say you'll bring her letter to her dad. You get a Doodled Message for him. Keep some bag space free. Reward: Doodled Message x1.
- The smith in the mine: Engel is the Flaming Spirit Man in Mount Mjolnir (mjo_dun02, 88,295). Give him the letter, then show him the Crumbs. He wants to restore the stone and needs 5 Mini Furnaces, 2 Oridecon Hammers and one good Anvil (Anvil, Oridecon, Golden or Emperium). He takes 7 crumbs from you. He guides you out of the mine afterwards.
-
Tools for the smith: Bring 5 Mini Furnaces, 2 Oridecon Hammers and an Anvil. A better anvil means a better chance: ordinary 38 %, Oridecon 67 %, Golden 91 %, Emperium 100 %. He gives you a Letter to Wife. Remember which anvil you used. Reward: Letter to Wife x1.
-
Letter to Brenda: Give the letter to Brenda Howard in Geffen.
-
Sweets for Liana: Tell Liana the news. She thanks you with 10 Candy. Reward: Candy x10.
-
Sobbing Starlight restored: Go back to Engel in the mine. With a Golden or Emperium Anvil the repair is almost sure; with a poor anvil it can fail and he asks for another try with better tools. The result is a Sobbing Starlight. On a failed try bring the tools again; a Golden or Emperium Anvil is best. Reward: Sobbing Starlight x1.
-
Back to Metz: Show Metz the restored Sobbing Starlight. He tells you about the hidden letters inside it and sends you to Geffen Tower.
-
The annoyed man in Geffen Tower: Find the wizard Dhota near the top of Geffen Tower (gef_tower, 118,36). When he asks why you came, type Metz Brayde or Sobbing Starlight. He tells you to look for a hunter named Laotan in Umbala.
- Laotan in Umbala: Find the native Laotan in Umbala (umbala, 163,256). He only talks to adventurers who have worked through the Umbala village quests. Bring a Mr. Smile and agree to give it. He takes the Mr. Smile headgear.
- Cyon's ancient pages: Look for Cyon in his hut (um_in, 27,23). Choose 'Would you look at this?'. The tiny text inside the Starlight needs old paper: bring him 10 Worn Out Pages.
-
The old document: Bring Cyon the 10 Worn Out Pages. He gives you a Record of Ancient Language. Reward: Record of Ancient Language x1.
-
Metz sends you to Frank: Show Metz the Record. He asks you to bring it to Frank Franklin in Alberta.
-
Frank's translation: Find Frank (alberta, 165,83). He needs a pair of Glasses; bring Glasses and the Record, choose 'Wait, I've got a pair of glasses...'. Translating takes time: ask him again from time to time until he hands over a Translated Ancient Language. Each visit has a small chance (about 1 in 50) of the translation being ready. Reward: Translated Ancient Language x1.
- The portal to Valhalla: Go to the field gef_fild07 and stand near (182,241). Bring 4 Resin, 12 Stone Heart and 365 Coral Reef. The Starlight reacts and you are lifted to the realm of the gods. 365 Coral Reef is a lot: start collecting early.
- Valkyrie Sandra: In Himinn (himinn, 48,86) the Valkyrie Sandra sets the gods' test: go to the realm of the dead, find the evil influence there and face it. Do not trust appearances. Reward: base EXP 900 to 35,000 depending on level.
- Serin in Niflheim: In Niflheim, a woman named Serin (niflheim, 313,70) asks for your help for the lost souls. Agree to her three requests ('Sure, go ahead', 'Sure, let's do it', 'Sure, why not?') and she explains. Saying yes starts a long errand for the dead (a lost child, a cursed book, a crow wing) and ends with Serin's Gold Ring; saying no also works but skips those parts. The errand parts, if you choose them: Cursed Soul (niflheim, 348,257), Kirkena's spot in nif_in (186,168), the child Alakina Ann in nif_in (156,91).
- Around Niflheim: Follow Serin's hints and visit the small spirits around Niflheim until you are told about the Witch: the bard Crayu in nif_in (102,81) is one of them. Next the Depressing Man Gen (niflheim, 146,241) asks why you want to meet the Witch.
- The Witch Kirkena: Step on the spot where Kirkena the Witch waits (nif_in, 186,168). She asks you to bring her the Symbol of the Nine Realms from the Queen of the Dead, and to tell no one. The Queen cannot be fought; you must earn her favor. Kirkena's hint: the Queen is searching for her lost mother Angrboda, so find where Angrboda is sealed away. If you have no ring, Kirkena first sends you to the Cursed Soul for a spell scroll.
-
Serin's story: Back with Serin (niflheim, 313,70) you talk three times: about the Queen of the Dead, about the Symbol, and about Angrboda. She warns you.
-
Valkyrie again: Report to Sandra in Himinn.
-
Laichin's price: Mad Man Laichin (niflheim, 102,54) knows where Angrboda's four soul pieces lie. Pay 40,000 Zeny and he names one of four orders. Pay 20,000 more (60,000 in all) and he tells you the clock positions to look at (big near the edge, small closer in, very small near the centre of the Glast Heim map). The order is picked at random; the clock positions are measured from the centre of the map.
- Angrboda's seals: In the Glast Heim map gl_dun02 strike the four Mysterious Energies (seals) in the order Laichin gave. A weak weapon often only shakes a seal; try again or carry a stronger one. The seals sit at (262,265), (271,100), (268,32), (16,26), (42,251), (123,234), (140,72) and (119,182). The fourth gives Spiritual Whispers. Collected parts: you get a Piece of Spirit from each seal; three are joined with the last into Spiritual Whispers.
- The Queen of the Dead: Gen (niflheim, 146,241) guides you to Lady Hell, the Queen of the Dead (que_sign01, 45,227). She exchanges the Spiritual Whispers for the true Symbol of the Nine Realms. Reward: Symbol of the Nine Realms x1.
- Face Serin: Give the Symbol to Kirkena (que_sign01, 122,141) or to Serin in Niflheim; both ways lead to Serin's lair. Either talk her out of it, or fight her Dark Lord. Return to Kirkena at the end. She pays base EXP 50,000 (with Serin's ring) or 30,000. If you agree to let Serin go instead, the quest ends in a failed ending: you get a little EXP and an Old Violet Box from Metz, and you never receive The Sign. Reward: base EXP 30,000 to 50,000.
-
The Sign: Valkyrie Sandra (himinn, 48,86) invites you to Valhalla and gives you The Sign. Reward: The Sign x1.
-
Metz reads the Sign: Hand The Sign to Metz. He notes the time on the server clock. Come back about four hours later (he checks two-hour blocks) and he returns it with a new lesson. Wrong hour: wait for the next fitting window and try again.
-
Engel reads the Sign: Take The Sign to Engel (mjo_dun02, 88,295). He studies it and asks you to return after a similar wait, on his two-hour clock. He then gives you the true Sign.
-
The wish of Metz: Show Metz the finished Sign. His wish is fulfilled. Reward: base EXP 200,000.
-
Lady Hell's gift: Return to Lady Hell (que_sign01, 45,227) and give her the Sobbing Starlight. She shows its true form and gives you Lucifer's Lament. Reward: Lucifer's Lament x1.
-
The gate to Geffenia: Stand at the Geffen fountain (geffen, 119,48) with Lucifer's Lament in your bag and throw it in. A door to Geffenia opens in front of the fountain (geffen, 119,55). The guide cannot see this last step, so it stays listed. The door stays open for a while after it is opened.
