Zeny is the currency in Ragnarok Online. You earn it by selling items to NPC shops, and you spend it on potions, equipment, and services. This guide covers the basics of earning and spending zeny as a new player.
💡In ArionRO (a 5x low-rate server), zeny comes slowly at first. Do not spend it all at once. Potions are your most important purchase early on.
Earn zeny by selling junk to NPC shops.
When you kill monsters, they drop items. Most of those drops have no use except to sell. Open your bag, find the items, right-click, and choose "Sell" while standing near a shop NPC.
Every NPC shop will buy your junk. The sell price is lower than the buy price (that is the NPC's cut), but it is easy money.
Common early drops worth selling:
- Jellopy (Jellopy) from Porings
- Sticky Mucus (Sticky Mucus) from Porings and Fabres
- Clover (Clover) from Lunatics
Buy potions at the Tool Dealer.
The Tool Dealer sells the healing items you need to survive. The most important ones early on:
- Red Potion (Red Potion) — restores a small amount of HP
- Yellow Potion (Yellow Potion) — restores more HP
- White Potion (White Potion) — restores a large amount of HP
Find the Tool Dealer inside Prontera.
Stock up on Red Potions at minimum before heading out to hunt.
Buy weapons and armor at NPC weapon shops.
NPC shops sell basic weapons and armor. They are not as strong as player-crafted or dropped gear, but they are reliable and always available.

Player-to-player trading is where the real economy happens. Players sell rare drops, crafting materials, and end-game gear at prices set by other players.
Visit the ArionRO player market at /market on this website to browse listings, check prices, and buy items with your zeny.
You can also sell your own rare drops on the Market instead of to NPCs, often for much more zeny.
